Halcyon Systems

I'm thefisherking. Halcyon Systems is where I make software products, games, and experiments. I also take on freelance development work.

I firmly believe technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. Technical excellence matters here, and so does remembering why we make excellent things. Technology is at its best when it makes people more free to self-determine, self-identify, to pursue truth, beauty, and goodness.

That affects what I choose to build. Eventually Box, for example, helps people get things done while respecting that they don't exist to accomplish a to-do list. It doesn't try to gamify the experience or upsell them on the idea of a more productive self.

I want to make things that work, while keeping in mind: “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”

Preferably before it gets so far out of hand that letting the VIs run the world doesn't seem appealing by comparison.
